Dead by Daylight Crossplay & Cross-Progression Complete Guide

Which platforms support DBD crossplay? How to enable crossplay? How to link accounts for cross-progression? Full PC/console/mobile crossplay tutorial with FAQ.

Does DBD Support Crossplay?

Yes, Dead by Daylight fully supports crossplay. Since 2020, Behaviour Interactive has added cross-platform play to all platforms. Regardless of which platform you play on, you can match and queue with players on other platforms.

💡 Important: Crossplay is enabled by default and requires no extra setup. If you match with players on other platforms, crossplay is working correctly.

Which Platforms Can Play Together?

DBD currently supports crossplay between all of the following platforms:

PlatformCrossplayCross-Progression
PC (Steam)✅ Yes✅ Yes (with Epic)
PC (Epic Games)✅ Yes✅ Yes (with Steam)
PlayStation 4/5✅ Yes⚠️ Limited
Xbox One / Series X|S✅ Yes⚠️ Limited
Nintendo Switch✅ Yes❌ No
Mobile (iOS/Android)✅ Yes❌ No

How to Enable or Disable Crossplay

Crossplay is enabled by default. If you want to disable it (match only with same-platform players), follow these steps:

  1. Go to the game main menu
  2. Click the Settings (gear icon) in the bottom right
  3. Select the Online tab
  4. Find the Crossplay toggle
  5. Switch to Off to match only with same-platform players
⚠️ Impact of Disabling Crossplay: Disabling crossplay significantly increases queue times, especially on platforms with smaller player bases like Switch. Unless you have a specific reason (e.g., only playing with same-platform friends), we recommend keeping it enabled.

Crossplay Limitations

  • Input-based matchmaking: For fairness, the system tries to match players with similar input methods. PC players (mouse/keyboard) and console players (controller) may be separated, though not absolutely isolated
  • Voice chat: DBD has no built-in voice chat. Cross-platform players need to use third-party voice software like Discord
  • Friend system: Adding friends across platforms requires a BHVR account, not platform friend lists
  • No shared progress: Crossplay ≠ cross-progression. Game progress, skins, and currency across platforms are not shared by default (except PC Steam and Epic)

How to Add Friends Across Platforms

To play with friends on other platforms, you first need to add them as BHVR friends:

  1. Ensure both you and your friend have registered and logged into a BHVR account (can be linked in game settings)
  2. Click the Friends List in the bottom left of the main menu
  3. Click Add Friend
  4. Enter your friend's BHVR account ID (not platform ID)
  5. Send a friend request — once accepted, they'll appear in your friends list
  6. Create a lobby and invite them through the friends list
💡 Tip: Your BHVR account ID can be found in Game Settings → Account Info. If you can't find a friend, confirm both sides are entering the BHVR ID, not Steam/PSN/Xbox ID.

Cross-Progression vs Crossplay

Many players confuse these two concepts:

🔗 Crossplay: Players on different platforms can play together. Supported on all platforms.

💾 Cross-Progression: Game progress, characters, skins, and currency can be shared across platforms. Only PC Steam and Epic share progress; console platforms have limited support.

To use cross-progression, you need to link a BHVR account in game settings and use the same BHVR account across platforms. For detailed cross-progression setup, refer to our cross-progression guide.

Common Crossplay Questions

Q: Does crossplay add latency?

Crossplay itself doesn't add extra latency. Latency mainly depends on your and other players' geographic locations and network quality. The game uses dedicated servers, and all platform players connect to the same server pool.

Q: Can I party with friends cross-platform but not match other platforms?

Yes. After partying with friends, disable crossplay in settings — then matchmaking will only find players on the party leader's platform. The party itself remains cross-platform.

Q: Why are Switch crossplay queue times so long?

The Switch player base is smaller, and disabling crossplay can lead to very long waits. We recommend keeping crossplay enabled so you can match with PC/console players, significantly reducing wait times.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Dead by Daylight support crossplay?

A: Yes, DBD fully supports crossplay. PC (Steam/Epic), PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and mobile can all match and party together.

Q: How do I enable DBD crossplay?

A: Crossplay is enabled by default. To confirm or disable it, go to Settings → Online → Crossplay toggle. We recommend keeping it enabled for faster matchmaking.

Q: Is crossplay the same as cross-progression?

A: No. Crossplay means players on different platforms can play together (supported on all platforms). Cross-progression means game progress/skins/currency are shared across platforms (only PC Steam and Epic share progress).

Q: How do I add friends on other platforms?

A: Both parties need a BHVR account. Then add friends in the in-game friends list using their BHVR account ID. Note: this is not the platform friend ID (Steam/PSN), but the BHVR account ID.

Q: What happens if I disable crossplay?

A: You'll only match with players on the same platform, and queue times will increase significantly, especially on smaller platforms. Unless you have a specific need, we recommend keeping crossplay enabled.
